What is the proper way to autopopulate assigned user for lead conversion to the current user that is converting?

Sugar OnDemand 9.1.0 Professional

As the title says, I would like the assigned user to change to the user that is converting the lead. Our leads are assigned to a group user of 'Sales', but when a user converts a lead to an opportunity, i want to reduce the amount of fields that will need interaction thus having the assigned user field update with the current user. Any advice?

This may be done using before_save logic hook easily.
inside hook, code something like that maybe work for you.
global $current_user;
if($bean->fetched_row['status'] !='converted' && $bean->status=='converted'){
$bean->assigned_user_id = $current_user->id;
}
