Auto populate field based on relate field

Hi Sugar experts,

I'm trying to auto populate value based on relate field.

Scenario :

1) I have one relate field in opportunities module (with "Contacts" module) that is created in studio.

2) I want to auto populate value from Contacts base on contacts record.

I tried from studio but it is not working. Also I tried with vardef file and it is working fine in web but in mobile edit view it is not working.

Help highly appreciated.

You need to use a formula.
relate($contacts,"desired_field")
This should automatically reference the related contact field and pull the record from that contact.

Hi Juned Rawoot,

You can do this with a few different methods.

1. You can use populate_list if you want to populate values from a different module into your current module based on the selection you've made in your relate field. An example of this can be seen in the OOB contacts module's vardefs. If you see the definition of the field "account_name" you will see how populate_list works.

2. You can use calculated fields and use the related() function. An example can be found here

3. You can use Dependency framework's SetValue() function. You can add a dependency to calculate and add the value.

The difference between points 2 and 3 is that if you use the approach mentioned in point 2, that will make the field read-only. The third option will keep the field editable.
