Expose M : M stock account contact information

We have a number of clients where the Contact has relationships with multiple Accounts.

The Sugar documentation covers this but recommends creation of an additional custom relationship to drive subpanel exposure.…

I understand this but the downside is that relationships created naturally through .csv import and/or Outlook plugin (for example) will not populate this second custom relationship table.

It makes more sense to me that we expose the M:M information that already sits in this core relationship table.

Has anyone achieved this through upgrade safe code customisation ?

I expect this involves supporting a sub-panel on the Contacts record at the same time as hiding the single 'relate' field currently exposed on an Account (this could be done in Studio)

Input welcome.
