How can I retain multiple email addresses when merging two or more contacts?

I have done a lot of contact merging lately. If I come across two contact records for the same person that have two or more different email addresses, the nonprimary email address disappears after the merge. How can I retain or make an email address non-primary? I have been copying and pasting the nonprimary email after the merge which seems like an antiquated way to accomplish the goal.

For example:

Primary                      Non-Primary

John Doe                  John Doe

john@doe.com         John@gmail.com

Account Doe            Account Doe

I want the end result to be:

John Doe

john@doe.com (primary)

john@gmail.com (nonprimary)

Account Doe

How can I accomplish this in the mail merge process?
