Inbound emails - automatically attach them to a contact?

I'm having a "senior moment".  I recall that we once had all inbound email to our users automatically connect to the contact based on the email...  Apparently that isn't the case.

 

Is there a simple way to make this happen or do the users need to manually archive the inbound mail?
