I have added the News Feed dashlet to my Opportunities dashboard, but even after refreshing the dashlet states "no data available". Is there an action I can take to enable the News Feed?

I had originally followed those steps, and my dashlet still says "no data available". Is there anything else that needs to be done?
May be your are getting responseStatus as 403.
I think you did not configure your Google Client id and Client secret to do so
Under Administrator > under System select Connector setting
there click on Setting Connector Properties then select Google Tab and enter your Google details save it.
If you don't have then create by following the steps given there.
Do Quick Repair and Rebuild.
You are likely experiencing the problem due to Google retiring the API the dashlet relied upon.

To apply the changes, copy the files on that link over to ./custom/clients/base/views/news/, empty the contents of your ./cache directory and reload Sugar in your browser.
