Custom field within accounts has stopped working and can not be edited

I have been using a free version of Sugar CRM which my IT team has housed on a server though unfortunately I do not know which version it is. I had created a custom 'multi-select' field in order to categorise the sectors/ industries of my accounts which has been working very well. However, as of this morning this field has ceased to work and now can not be updated when I attempt to edit the account details. Could anyone direct me toward what may be causing this issue?
