Trouble getting SMTP email to work

So I am trying to get email to work throughout sugar crm for SMTP use. We are using a generic email account that we created for the login authentication and our SMTP is through Office 365. In the administration area, I used all the correct settings and when I do the test email function, success...I get an email no problem.

My problem is when I have a user who put in their login credentials under their crm account for the SMTP server that they would use, click test email under their account, it gives the same message like it went through properly but nothing actually comes through.

Is there something that I'm missing? Could part of the problem be that we are on an older version of the CRM? We are currently using 7.5.2.3
