Where to start troubleshooting?  "There was an error while connecting to server.  Please try again."

We currently have an onsite install of SugarCRM running on RHEL 7 (application and database servers).  I have had several reports from users that they receive the generic error "There was an error while connecting to server.  Please try again." when trying to save information to SugarCRM (Accounts, Contacts, Quotes).  I have looked through sugar logs and I don't see any specific error related to the problems.  The error is not consistent and a user can keep clicking.  Sometimes the change will go through in as little as two tries and others 50.  Does anyone have thoughts on where I can start troubleshooting this issue?  What does the error point to or mean?  The error happens in mobile and on browser.  It also occurs onsite or remotely.

Any help would be much appreciated.
