Alignment problems in email PDF template generation with Smarty

Question asked by [.::MDT::.] [.::MDT::.] on May 25, 2015
I am trying to create a PDF template in SugarCRM.

I had a lot of problems because the engine seems to strip a lot of HTML tags, or do not handle HTML tags correctly anyway.

I had issues with table alignment, which I more or less solved by reading https://salesagility.com/forum/4-aos-4x/180-pdf-template-format-problem (basically you need to insert the width in the TD element and only there!).

Still, issues with text alignment are driving me mad.
For example, see code below:
<td>

            <p>
              <strong>                  $contact_last_name $contact_first_name                   <br />                                  </strong>                                <strong>                  $contact_alt_address_street                   <br />                               </p> </td>
In this example, contact last name and first name are not indented, whereas the address field is indented.
In other words, I expect last name and address to be aligned, but they are not.

Any idea how to solve that?

Thanks a lot.
