Why don't documents on Opportunities show on the related Account?

We add documents to Opportunities and Leads, to store things like signed contracts etc. We attach the document via the Documents subpanel on the Opportunity, but for some reason these documents are not visible on the related Account record.

Is this because the Documents module is one of the old historic modules which is being re-worked in a later version? Is there a way to associate the Document to the Account as well as the Opportunity/Lead etc?

I know you can manually assign it to an Account after you have uploaded the Document, but this flies in the face of the hierarchy in Sugar.

Any ideas?
