email templates erases previous conversation

When we are responding to emails, we want to utilise existing email templates.  However, the template doesn't insert above the existing email body, it deletes the entire existing email altogether.  Therefore, you can't select an template to reply to a new inbound email, you have to retype the entire template content - extremely frustrating.  

Can this be fixed in a future release so email templates simply insert above the existing email body?
