How to create a workflow to trigger when a new case is saved?

Help! I need to create a workflow to trigger as soon as a case is saved in Sugar, so it emails the customer to acknowledge receipt of their case.

I have successfully created a workflow to email the customer each time the status updates. But I cannot get a workflow to work for when a case is just saved.

The default case status is "Opened", so I have tried to base my workflow around that.

Execution occurs: when record saved
Target module: cases
Status: Active
Applies to: New records only
Order: Alerts then actions

When a field in the target module contains a specific value: Status equals Opened

Alerts: email a template to the customer

What am I doing wrong? I have tried changing the Applies To and the Order, but neither have made any difference.

Any help would be gratefully received!
