Newbie needs walkthrough for module builder / manifest etc.

We were just upgraded to version Monday evening.  Our layouts from the old Edit View & Detail View were not brought over to the new Record View.  I was able to re-create them via the SugarCRM Studio.

My problem is that the new Record View is difficult to see / read for many Users.  I found an article to Extend the Record View in Sugar 7 here:  and I have been trying to figure out how to do this with my On Demand version.  I read this: but now I am even more confused!

Is there a simple walkthrough on the process that needs to be followed.  Do I use the Module Builder / Module Loader?  I am reluctant to try anything for fear of breaking the existing Record View.  I am comfortable with the SugarCRM Studio interface and importing records etc.  I am also comfortable with HTML, CSS, PHP and REST.  I just don't know how to take the files I have found and configure them into a package and make the changes.  I am probably making it more difficult than it needs to be...

Thanks for any assistance,
