REST URL limit is too long

Rest API requests can be excessively long. We have ~320 fields on our accounts entity and when the API call is made, the URI is ~6k characters.

If this request was made via POST, there would not likely be an issue, but as this is made with GET the URI limits of any intermediate services come into play. We are hosting behind a reverse proxy service that has a GET URI limit of 4096, so the accounts view never loads. This limit is pretty standard and some are as low as ~2k characters. Apache has a default of ~8k.

Has anyone else run into this or have suggestions for resolution?
