"Failed to retrieve data" error when attempting to save modified dropdowns

I'm receiving a "Failed to retrieve data" error whenever I modify or add a field.

To produce the error:

Navigate to Admin > Studio > Dropdown Editor > Any arbitrary DropDown field

Add dropdown field (indicate item name, display label -- I used arbitrary test, test)
Hit Add
Hit Save
Loading... appears for a second, then “Failed to retrieve data” appears.

Oddly enough, each account can make one change to a drop down that will actually commit, then cannot do another change. If I delete and recreate an arbitrary account, I can make a modification.
