What is the best method to track leads coming from real-life contacts?

We have real life contacts that provides lead.   I want to enter them in sugar so we can add them in our emails campaign since they are generating at least 50% of our leads.  Now entering them as "contacts" in CRM seems to just add confusion.  I was wondering if I should just create a module called "Influencers" to put those important real life contact in CRM.  What do you guys think?  FYI, I'm new at this company and they are trying to use an existing CRM which is a little messed up. I'm trying to understand CRM and clean it up for good use.
