Building a custom application using SugarCRM as Backend

i'm trying to build an application that will deal with a huge amount of data and users , we are searching for stability and this is the most important , meanwhile the application requires very complicated UIs & screens that i think will be very hard to create using SugarCRM tools like module builder , so my idea is to build the UI outside of sugarCRM and use sugarCRM as a back end , so i will send/receive data to/from it using the SOAP api , and i will use the basic modules of SugarCRM like accounts , contact .. etc , the only difference will be that the UIs is  outside of sugar so i can freely design/develop them

is this a good idea ? will this affect the performance ?

thanks in advance
