emails sent from advanced workflow to recipient not related to record

I have a workflowdefinition that's triggered when a new lead is created. The workflowdefinition sends an email to the recipient from the new lead, using an emailtemplate. That all works fine. The email is sent. However, i do not see the email appear in the subpanel Emails for that lead. A user looking at that lead in Sugar can't tell if or when that email was sent. Does anyone have encountered this functional gap as well and perhaps have a workaround for this?
